What should i where to the school dance this friday and shoes?

Help me

What should i where to the school dance this friday and shoes?
Girl-

FANCY- it%26#039;s nice to be dressed up, but not over or under dressed. Go with a red sweater (that drops to your shoulders) and a holiday broach. then wear a black skirt above the knees with simple designs. for shoes, get black cute 2-inch heels.

CASUAL- skin-tight stretch materialed long sleeve shirt and a cut up to bits tee with neon paint all OVER it. for pants, wear holy low-cut jeans. for shoes, get DC%26#039;s, etnies, or a cool color of converses. for your hair, pick a fun style (maybe with a headband) earrings don%26#039;t really matter, wear a choker neclace, and lots of cheap braclets.
Reply:Since people rearly dress up for things, GIRLS____ just wear nice jeans, a dressy top, and heels. this look always works for the casual/formal event. And you can accent it with jewelry. You don%26#039;t want to loook like everyone else but you don%26#039;t want to stand out negativly either GUYS_______Nice jeans with a button down never fails. If you going for dressy wear dress shoes if not wear sneakers/shoes that match( you can never go wrong with white for most jeans and shirts.................Have fun and Later
Reply:cute jean srtaight skirt maybe just above the knee. try layers but not tooo heavy layers or you will sweat like a pig. if you know what i mean. umm best of luck. if you are a guy then wear a cute button down polo with some khaki%26#039;s . i dont think you weere a guy b cuz y would you be asking what to wear if ur gay or not. anyway. ...........
Reply:just go with a cute skirt and one of your favorite shirts to go with it.
Reply:i would help u if i new if u were a girl or guy

What are the best type of Tap (dancing) shoes?

Hi, I have recently started tap dancing classes, and was wondering what brand of (adult) shoes are considered the best, and also what brand is recommended by dancers out there? I dance in shows and musicals. Thanks!

What are the best type of Tap (dancing) shoes?
Hi!

Wow, no answers after 22 hours! I think I know why:

The best tap shoe is whatever is best FOR YOU. All the brands are different, and you just have to try a few. If you can borrow tap shoes, try borrowing different brands in the same size. My SODANCAS lasted for a really long time and still look and sound great (they just don%26#039;t fit anymore).

The different manufacturers make different sizes even when they SAY they%26#039;re the same. Some are wide and some are slender. A good dancer%26#039;s outlet store will have several different brands you can try on. If the person behind the counter is a tap dancer too, he or she can be really helpful.

Good luck, have fun, keep dancin%26#039;!
Reply:for me, its capezio. but it depends on your foot.
Reply:You really shouldn%26#039;t order tap shoes from the Internet, because they are all different, I would go somewhere and try them on. Every foot is different! Good Luck.
Reply:Whatever you like. I like Capezio...look in dance magazines and around in dance stores. Try on what you like and is comfortable.
Reply:Bloch, its what I use, and I have been dancing for almost 10 years. Reliable and comfortable!!! I hope I helped you!!!
Reply:the best are what ever you can afford

Ladies:You go to a dance, but the only shoes u can wear are high heels or bare feet, what do u choose?

I%26#039;d go barefoot no matter what kind of shoes I could chose from. I am always barefoot and it%26#039;s so much more comfortable! Glass is no danger, I danced barefoot the sunday before last and there was some glass on the dancefloor, it didn%26#039;t feel sharper than pebbles and I didn%26#039;t get even the slightest nick in my soles. When you%26#039;re habitually barefoot, feet get very tough!

High heels would never be an option; I wore shoes for almost 29 years before I started to go barefoot, but NEVER high heels. I wouldn%26#039;t do that to my feet, not even for a little while. Wore pumps with a bit of a heel to one dance and even took those off after a while %26#039;cause my feet hurt.

i dance with high heels... but i leave with bare feet.. haha

u can imagine why :)
Reply:Heels, for sure!! I love heels, especially dancing in them! (They%26#039;re especially fun compared to pointe shoes. lol.) Bare feet are fun, but at a dance, I%26#039;ll take heels.
Reply:barefeet, hate heels*
Reply:Bare feet. I almost never wear high heels, so I probably wouldn%26#039;t dance too well in them.
Reply:go in heels and once they start to hurt go bare foot

i suggest taking some wet wipes or something that you can throw out in order to clean off your feet before you run around barefoot
Reply:Bare feet!!!!!!!!
Reply:wear shoes to get to the dance then bare feet once you get there
Reply:naked toes ofcourse!
Reply:well i wear high heels and when i get tired of them i just take them off. lol its tht simple
Reply:depends on the dance. im into hip hop so id stick with bare feet.
Reply:bare foot.. I seem to trip over my shoes. :(
Reply:High heels. It%26#039;s not dancing unless you wear heels.
Reply:wear the heels and take them off
Reply:i would wear the high heels to the dance but coz i love dancing once the heels start 2 hurt id get them off n keep dancing just make sure noone steps on ur toes haha!!
Reply:When I go dancing, I love wearing high heels. After a couple of times you%26#039;ll have no problem dancing with them, plus they make you look totally feminine and sexy.
Reply:High heels. It adds grace to my dancing.
Reply:high heels
Reply:Going to the dance I would be in heels but when I am there they would soon be off and I would dance in bare feet, a lot more comfortable than heels and I just gotta make sure no one swipes them again. I would also leave the heels off and remain in bare feet for the night even on the walk home.
Reply:i guess bare feet are more comfortable in dancing as for me
Reply:Well, it depends what type of dance.

I%26#039;m good at dancing in high heels,

But i love ding contemporary and ballet,

And they are easier in bare feet.

So probably bare feet : )

Also in heels you can%26#039;t really point your toes,

But in bare feet you can really well.
Reply:Defiantly wear the high heels.
Reply:It depends on how comfortable my shoes are, and how tall my partner is. In any case, you can always go first in shoes, and then take them off later if you want to.

Ballerina type slipper/shoe, they are flat. comfy and have your feet covered.
Reply:Hi-Heels
Reply:Unless you are really young, I don%26#039;t know how old you are...A lady never takes her shoes off at a public social event like a dance. Get used to dancing in heels, and keep them on. Don%26#039;t wear brand new shoes to a dance. Buy them a couple of weeks ahead and break them in. Make sure they have a strap accross the top because it is akward to dance in slides. I go to a lot of formal events, and my husband and I go out dancing a lot. It%26#039;s always easy to tell which girls aren%26#039;t used to elegant shoes and appearal because they are out dancing barefooted. Unless you are at a rock concert, it%26#039;s tacky.
Reply:Bare feet all the way baby!
Reply:high heels of course!
Reply:Heels!! It looks better!!%26lt;3
Reply:Start out wearing the heels. When my feet start to hurt take them suckers off!
Reply:I love high, but depends on the type of dance. If slow, then i am high, otherwise bare.
Reply:depends on how high high heels :O))
Reply:Bare feet, high heels are very painful to wear while dancing I find. It is much better to dance when you are comfortable and I am comfortable barefoot, I dance a lot better too.

When I used to wear high heels to a dance I always took them off within half an hour, so did many others.
Reply:high heel feels me sexy all the time...but actually I dont dance
Reply:depends on the venue! I would suffer the pain if it%26#039;s a bit of a hole with broken glass etc, if not im all for comfort!!
Reply:definitely bare feet... i like to show grooves and heels kind of limit me...
Reply:high heels but i know by the end of the night they will be off and il have bare feet
Reply:wear the heels and take them off
Reply:Barefoot for the dancing.

Peace.
Reply:heels. I don%26#039;t want to step on anything gross with bare feet.

Reply:I would wear high heels to the dance but I would take them off soon enough and walk and dance in bare feet. It would be too uncomfortable to spend the whole night in heels. I have done this countless times and have also mostly walked home in bare feet as well afterwards.
Reply:Only high heels of course!
Reply:Definitely the high heels
Reply:Bare feet. I can%26#039;t do heels...I%26#039;m way too tall when I wear heels. I feel like a giant.
Reply:Well, it depends on the type of dance. If it is propper dancing then bare feet. Otherwise, if its just one of them dances where you dont really dance then heels. I suppose if I had to choose it would be bare feet, then just dance like crazy.
Reply:high heels of course

although it is hard to wear especially going to a dance, but its cool, your taller when you where heels.

Reply:Four inch heels.
Reply:I would wear high heels to the dance but I would take them off soon enough and just continue in my bare feet, heels are not the most comfortable shoe designed. Chances are once I took them off I would leave them off as well. I have no problem going around in just bare feet, it is more comfortable and enjoyable if you ask me.

I like to go barefoot. (I hate having anything on my feet)

definitely bare foot. i hate high heels-there is no point to them and plus they put too much strain on your body.
Reply:yeah high heels...i%26#039;d be too scared in bare feet what with all the other women who would be wearing high heels and stomping on me while we dance

I would like to find the turquoise patterned dress worn by cameron diaz in 'in her shoes', at the tea dance.

The dress was pattered, turquoise, and a halter neck. She was wearing it at the tea dance near the end of the film. Watched it today and can%26#039;t find anything similar on the web.

Any ideas would be great : )

yes...they wear tennies cuz ninies are too small %26amp; elevenies are too big

If elephants could dance would they wear shoes?
I guess you%26#039;d have to ask the elephants about that
Reply:you may borrow them your shoes!!lol
Reply:Actually, it would be a matter of what sort of dancing they were going to do. For example, if they wanted to tap dance, tap shoes would certainly be a necessity.

lulu
Reply:ballet point slippers I think, yup, point slippers.
Reply:Yes, but not high heels.
Reply:The question is, where would they buy their shoes? And how would they pay if they have no fingers? But I assume that they would if they could dance....... So I guess I would have to say no. I believe that they would be light on their toes and would do the types of dances that shoes would only hinder.
Reply:Clogs

How long should i be in dance to wear pointe shoes!!!!!!?

10 yr. old

i%26#039;ve danced off%26amp;on for about 4 years

i REALLY!!!!! want to get in to pointe!!

How long should i be in dance to wear pointe shoes!!!!!!?
Here%26#039;s the thing. You%26#039;re 10. You have danced for a while. But be really careful, and you might want to wait. It might not be what you want to hear, but if you go on too soon and aren%26#039;t ready, you could ruin your entire dance career.

I know how bad you want to be on pointe, I remember when I did. It%26#039;s so wonderful, even though it hurts a bit. It%26#039;s like magic and it%26#039;s just so exiting! Your teacher will know when and how to put you on pointe. In the meantime, really straighten your legs and especially your ankles. A great exercise is to write the alphabet with your feet in the air- I know-weird, but it works.

About your age, the youngest I%26#039;ve seen girls go en pointe is 11, sometimes 12. You don%26#039;t want to rush. It%26#039;s OK to wait, and it%26#039;s even better to go for it and try hard. Just be smart.
Reply:Ask your teache what she thinks about it. It depens on how good you are too. I started dance when I was like three, and started point at age ten. So your not too young but you may not have been going long enough to do it but ask she really is the only one who can tell you.
Reply:i %26#039;m 15 and i have been doing ballet four months but my teacher said that next year i will wear pointe because of my strong will and my good technique. i believe that if you really love it you can make it!
Reply:probably 11! i know someone who started at 8!!!good luck!
Reply:Your ballet teacher is the only one who should tell you when its okay to start training on point. He or she can see how strong you are. The key is to be strong and have good technique because these things will help prevent you from injuring yourself. Point shoes are exciting! And its definitely worth the wait. Let the anticipation motivate you to persevere!
Reply:10 is normally the age when teachers start to pay attention.

if your legs and ankles and feet get strong enough then your teacher might start thinking about letting you go en pointe.

if you start to soon you could injure yourself, and keep yourself from going up for even longer.

so you have to be patient and really start to train yourself.

do plie releve when your watching tv, sit in your splits, do coupes, and just practice...

good luck! and be patient lol

Can anyone recommend a good dance shoe for casual social ballroom dancing?

The venues where I dance are very casual and laid-back, and I usually dance in jeans or crop pants, sometimes a casual skirt. I have been dancing in shoes from the mall, but that%26#039;s not the greatest option. Any suggestions on a brand, syle, web site?

Can anyone recommend a good dance shoe for casual social ballroom dancing?
It doesn%26#039;t really matter how casual or how dressy is the social you%26#039;re attending. You need quality shoes. They are all made resonably pretty, the difference is quality. I recommend closed toe, suede sole social ballroom shoes. Many people go for open toe, too. The exact style doesn%26#039;t really matter, entirely up to your taste. Just don%26#039;t get anything that%26#039;s all straps, that%26#039;s not very comfortable.

The height of the heel is up to you, but don%26#039;t get anything higher than 2.5%26quot;, no need to torture your feet. Some shoes come with better padding of the soles than other; you need that feature if you like to dance non-stop for a couple of hours. Some models come with buckled top, which allows you to vary the width of the shoe. This is pretty good feature when you have to buy from internet.

There are cheap cheap brands out there, but I found them not as durable, not as comfortable and in some cases bad for your feet. Go for something that%26#039;s decent quality.

Leading brands are Supadance, International, Dance Naturals. Those are professional quality shoes, if you get them on sale - consider yourself lucky.

Successful but still pretty cheap are Stephanie and Dance Amo. They are much cheaper, come with steel shank (to support and protect your foot) and with good padding. Capezio is popular too but beware - nothing suede-soled other that Practice shoe is any good.

It is best if you can find a local store that carries ballroom shoes. Ballroom shoe needs to be fitting like a glove. It is pretty difficult to guess wich style or brand will fit you better.

Here is a few websites where I like to shop for shoes:

http://www.featherdanceshoes.com

http://www.dancesport.uk.com

http://dancevision.com

http://www.dance-shop.com/acatalog/Dance...

Please note that some brands come in Italian or British sizes - be sure to use conversion chart.

These styles are pretty %26quot;safe%26quot; to recommend to anyone:

http://www.dance-shop.com/acatalog/Dance...

They are most practical and fit pretty well.

But check out featherdanceshoes.com - they have couple of good designs on sale on the front page.

What are the best women's shoes for swing dancing?

I%26#039;ve always danced in my dress shoes, whatever I had at home. Now I%26#039;m going to a wedding and am looking forward to buying a dress and shoes. I%26#039;d like to buy shoes that are usable for daily wear if possible; I%26#039;d rather not spring for dedicated dance shoes, as we don%26#039;t get out too often (2 babies!) and are on a tight budget. Is there a certain style and sole that are good? Flats, I imagine, or a low heel, smooth soles...? (I have over a month to go, could possibly order online, prefer to try shoes in a store, will take any advice you offer!)

What are the best women%26#039;s shoes for swing dancing?
Aris Allen is a very popular line... http://www.arisallen.com/ Take a look at their website and see if it gives you any ideas. You can also frequently find people selling used pairs on ebay that are usually in pretty good shape.
Reply:If you are dressing up enough, you can get a decent pair of ballroom dancing shoes for about $80. Other than that, You can wear anything that%26#039;s comfortable and has some slip to the sole. Cowboy boots are great.
Reply:I think you should get your shoes the same color of your dress , all so if you like a heal on the shoe you can Aris Allen RugCutterRaw Sole they are very nice and dose not hurt your feet at all . That is what I would chose . have fun a t the wedding . -B-
Reply:Flats.. think of the 50%26#039;s shoe styles..
Reply:If you%26#039;re looking for something elegant, you%26#039;ll want a wedge of some kind (shoe with a high heal, but the bottom of the shoe is all connected and flat at the bottom). This was the common shoe worn in the 40%26#039;s, and they%26#039;re quite popular now at Target and Wallmart if you%26#039;re looking for a cheap buy.

If you%26#039;re looking for something more fun (I don%26#039;t know what your outfit is) but you%26#039;ll probably want something like Sadle Shoes (the black and white shoes commonly associated with the 50%26#039;s) which date back to 30%26#039;s collegiate fashion.

The important thing is to buy comfortable shoes. There%26#039;s no point in buying shoes to dance in that look great, but end up giving you a blister.

Hope that helps!

Create your own website for really cheap via GoDaddy or 1and 1. As for a shoe wholesaler, google it or check your local yellow pages. I could refer you but dance shoes are unique and whether they are for adults or children will determine where they come from.

Junior High Semi-Formal Dance Ideas: Makeup, Hair, Dress, Shoes?

I want to have a purple dress, because I have hazel eyes and it looks really good with my eyes, but I don%26#039;t know what makeup to wear...I%26#039;m thinkiing very matte skin with light blush and REALLY striking eyes...any pretty eye ideas? Or hair? And shoes and accessories for a purple dress? (dark purple, not light) Thanks.

Junior High Semi-Formal Dance Ideas: Makeup, Hair, Dress, Shoes?
It completely depends on the cut of the dress, if a more conservative dress (i.e. below the knee, covers up most of the chest area) I would suggest hair up in a simple twist or a french twist if you can manage it.

A halfup style would be much more dance friendly however.

You would want matte skin if you are to be dancing, make up wise: Heavy mascara on top and bottom lashes, shimmery shadow on just the lids, nude lips (too much color would overwhelm), and liquid eyeliner with a small flick up at the edge for the top. Very Audrey Hepburn and chic. black shoes (ballet flats would be easier to dance with) don%26#039;t bother with a purse, but you would need something for your ears if you are wearing it all up. Chandelier earings or something pretty and dangly, a big no for a necklace if the neckline is higher up however.

For a less conservative dress (a strapless dress, or a v neck etc). Hair down in light waves, either braid it the night before or get it curled with a 2 inch curling iron. LOOSE waves is the key.

Makeup: Less mascara (maybe 1 coat or 2), line the bottom eyelid only half way with a dark color, and fill the rest with purple eyeliner or shadow. Line the top lightly with a dark eyeliner. Lips, a light colored lip gloss

Shoes: Heels are a must with a less conservative dress. Kitten heels would be easier to dance in

Accessories: Studs for earrings only, long dangly ones would get caught in your hair since it would be down, however a necklace would look very nice with this.

additional Tips

SILVER. NOT GOLD!

There is no need to wear blush. If you are dancing you would be working up a flush anyways so a blush would be make you TOO red

Dont%26#039; focus too much on the hair, it will get messy later on that night anyways.

A Light shawl would be elegant, try to find a black one.

DON%26#039;T WEAR PURPLE SHOES

Dancing shoes?

where is a place where i can get some dance shoes that have the hard toe to where you can walk on your toes? Ballerina shoes?

Dancing shoes?
I think you mean pointe shoes. These are sold at most dance suppliers, especially those that sell Bloch, Capezio, Freeds, ... ballet-wear or dance shoes. I def will warn you that you shouldn%26#039;t go out and buy them unless you have had proper ballet training and are using them under the supervision of a trained teacher. Pointe can be very dangerous and if you aren%26#039;t doing it correctly, you could end up injured.
Reply:I think you mean jazz goggers you can get them from any local dance suplier
Reply:you could probably get them at any ballet store BUT do NOT by any means put them on if your ballet teacher hasn%26#039;t said you should I know FAR to many of my friends don%26#039;t do ballet said %26quot;they were being careful%26quot; and fell and broke their ankles or ruined their feet. I am not trying to be mean just be safe!
Reply:online google a dance magazine or a store near you i recommend you get ballet training before..... i had at least 7 years under my belt before i was aloud on pointe if not taken seriously it can lead to serious pain and injury
Reply:A good store won%26#039;t sell somebody with no ballet experience pointe shoes because you%26#039;ll probably end up spraining or breaking your ankle. Girls who take ballet are only allowed to ge en pointe after years of training and when their teacher is sure that they have good technique and ver strong ankles and feet. Please don%26#039;t try and dance in pointe shoes. Also, they cost between 70 and 90 bucks! You can buy some normal ballet shoes if you really want to, but those cost about $35. Don%26#039;t be stupid and hurt yourself in pointe shoes.

Ballroom dancing shoes for men?

Hi!

I%26#039;m just wondering an easy way to reduce the friction on the bottom of men%26#039;s dress shoes. I have dress shoes with rubber soles and I want to use them for ballroom dancing.

I%26#039;m just trying to get out of buying expensive ballroom dance shoes...

Thanks!

Ballroom dancing shoes for men?
check out discount dance supply
Reply:Not possible. There is a reason why ballroom shoes are ballroom shoes, and street shoes are street shoes. They are designed for different kind of movement.

I%26#039;ve seen people glue suede on the bottom, dancing in them once and then buying real shoes. You don%26#039;t feel the floor in them. Unless it%26#039;s the right kind of suede, it ends up being too slippery and wears out too quickly.

It%26#039;s not just the traction that differs ballroom shoes from street shoes. It%26#039;s the tighter fit and flexibility that allows you to dance well.

Proper shoes will protect your ankles from injuries.

Finally, here is a reason that will outrage you: when you guys approach us ladies for a dance, we look at your shoes if we don%26#039;t know you. If you wear anything else than ballroom shoes, we come up with an excuse to say no. Because you will step on our feet, you won%26#039;t be able to move well and it won%26#039;t be fun. ;-)
Reply:First off, please ensure your soles are non-marking. I hate seeing scuffed up floors... sorry.

I%26#039;m trying to think of a quality way to get a good dance shoe out of your situation... for quality you%26#039;re going to need to buy some new shoes, buddy.
Reply:Ain%26#039;t happenin%26#039;. Even if you went to the ridiculous extreme of gluing suede soles on them, you still wouldn%26#039;t get the proper feel for the floor. You can buy some decent shoes for around $80. Just bite the bullet and get the things.

Women: What kind of shoes do you dance in?

Depends on what kind of dance you mean.

If it%26#039;s ballroom or social dance, wear high-heeled shoes (they don%26#039;t have to be very high, as long as you%26#039;re comfortable in them). The shoes should be secure, meaning that they should have ankle straps and fit well, enabling you to move in them easily. No slip-ons or mules, and certainly no flip flops.

If it%26#039;s hip hop, then obviously sneakers are best. I think gym shoes or tennis shoes are better than running shoes as they give you more stability.

If you just mean dancing in clubs/discos, anything goes as long as your toes are secure from being stomped on!

Women: What kind of shoes do you dance in?
It doesn%26#039;t really matter what kind of shoes I have on, once I start dancing, I usually end up in my stocking feet!
Reply:Sneakers, cause thats pretty much all i own (or would bother wearing. Most of those other shoes like high heels can give you serious problems later on in life. So yeah, i will keep dancing.
Reply:Supadance style 1003 and style 1403

Reply:phat farms or converse their both running shoes ...sorta
Reply:I wear proper dancing shoes with leather soles- they weigh about 4 ounces
Reply:I wear sneakers or loafers. Sometimes I will wear comfortable sandals in the summer, but it%26#039;s rare.
Reply:I have a size 7 DANCING SHOES, made by Phillipe Razxeaky, an Hungarian who now lives in Salt Lake City with his mum.

They are patent bohemian leather with a beautiful tasselled front and side lacing.

Cost. $1200. Fairly cheap for his work.
Reply:I do hip-hop dancing and there are special shoes for that. I use them and they give good support and they look awesome to. I dont know if there is a special name for them but I just call them %26quot;hip-hop shoes%26quot;. If you go into a dance store I%26#039;m sure they would know what you mean by hip-hop shoes. GOOD LUCK!

How do pointe shoes help you dance on ur toes???

do they jis make it so its easier?

How do pointe shoes help you dance on ur toes???
the box of the pointe shoe shapes and supports the toe/ball of foot area, some dancers with strong feet dont particulary need pointe shoes but it gives the support the anckles and arch and gives a clean look to the foot
Reply:point shoes have a box at the end that allows you to stay on your toes

it isnt really easy but i suppose it is easier to stand on your toes in point shoes vs ballet shoes but you dont stand on your toes in ballet shoes
Reply:The tip if flat so when you are balanced on it, you are on a flat surface. There is nothing %26quot;easy%26quot; about it though.
Reply:it doesn%26#039;t make it easier in any sense. if you tried to stand on your toes minus the pointe shoes, you%26#039;ll fall straight over. with the poitne shoes, there%26#039;s a flat surface that you can balance on after a lot of practice.
Reply:It%26#039;s actually more about the strength and flexibility of the dancer%26#039;s foot and body than it is about the shoes. A dancer who dances en pointe for a while can also releve into full pointe in her bare feet (I%26#039;ve done it, seen it done many times.) It%26#039;s not comfortable and it%26#039;s not like she can then do all the myriad of steps she can do when she%26#039;s wearing the shoe which gives her more support, but she can go up onto full pointe in her bare feet.

A pointe shoe is made of glue and fabric hardened into a shape that has a flat tip to give the dancer a place to balance on (not a big place, but a place nonetheless). The shoe is so stiff at first that when a dancer tries to go onto demi pointe it%26#039;s a struggle. There%26#039;s a leather sole to the shoe that%26#039;s heavily reinforced and dancers spend a long time breaking the shoe in, getting it just soft enough that she can flex it while it%26#039;s still strong enough to give her that extra bit of support to do all the steps she needs to do en pointe.

And it HURTS. It hurts like mad. Dancers do all sorts of things to help pad the shoe like taping their toes together with athletic tape, wrapping their toes in lambwool padding and putting on preshaped gel pads (think of the gel pads used in push up bras. Now think of the same thing shaped to fit around your toes. Bingo.) Even with the best padding in the world, it still hurts, because a dancer is balancing all her body weight onto the tips of her toes, and the shoe has a stiff box (the part around the toes) meant to help her maintain her releve, but it does so at a cost.

The very first pointe shoes used were made out of silk and the only reinforcement they had was being darned with heavy thread to give the dancer%26#039;s foot just a tiny tiny bit more support than a plain silk slipper would give. The dancer%26#039;s did only a very few short steps en pointe before coming down again. As time went by, the shoes became more and more stiff and supportive and the dancers did more and more movements en pointe.

Hope this helps!
Reply:They make it easier, but not easy, by any means. The toe of the shoe is hardened with kind of like starch or plaster to make a rigid box under the satin; the box is called (appropriately enough) the toe box. You wrap your toes with lambswool and/or apply a foam toe pad to cusion your toes before you put them into the shoe so that the hard box doesn%26#039;t hurt your toes as much (it still hurts, though!) and then you tie the ribbons tightly around your ankle to give your ankle strength and stability - kind of like hightop sneakers do for B-ball players. The tip of the toe box is flat and provides a stable surface for balancing on, but you still have to have extraordinary muscle control in your feet, ankles, knees, and legs, and extraordinary balance in your core body, in order to roll up %26quot;en pointe%26quot; with any sort of grace and stay there long enough to execute any steps with any sort of agility. My hat is off to all ballerinas out there. Hope this helps.

Best shoes for lyrical dance w/ splits?

Maybe it%26#039;s the type of shoe, maybe it%26#039;s a personal weakness... I%26#039;m a very novice dancer. I have splits in my lyrical, and I need to be able to do splits on a gym floor. Can I do this in suede/ leather foot thongs? And spins?

Best shoes for lyrical dance w/ splits?
Our students do splits and spins in both 1/2 soles and foot thongs.
Reply:Maybe it%26#039;s the floor. I%26#039;m practicing on the linoleum floor at my house. Is a (wood) gym floor easier? I tried foot thongs, and they stuck too much. I just took the splits out of my dance this time. Report It

Reply:i do spins, splits, and everything in foot undeez
Reply:Well, here%26#039;s the thing, suede/leather lyrical sandals don%26#039;t offer the support you really need, and it can actually hurt the bones in your ankles, feet, and shins....especially if you%26#039;re doing any jumps.

I highly recommend Capezio or Bloch split-sole elasta booties. They offer the correct amount of support regardless. After you%26#039;ve danced for a few years, you can use dance paws because you%26#039;ve built up enough strength in your feet, ankles, etc.

Good luck!

I'm taking a dance class called "Lindy Fix" and I need to know what kind of shoes to wear? (and clothes)

This dance combines Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, %26amp; Balboa practice (?). This is what the ad says. It also says to %26quot;bring clean footwear.%26quot; I have no idea what kind of shoes to wear to something like this. I imagine comfortable ones, but sneakers? I don%26#039;t have a clue! It says to wear indoor clothes also? It also says to %26quot;wear shoes that slide?%26quot; What shoes slide? I need to know what shoes to wear, where to get them from and what kind of clothes to wear. I have these shiny black spandex pants I think would be appropriate, but what type of shirt should I wear? I am sso clueless here. Can anyone help? I always pick someone for best answer by the way, you won%26#039;t be wasting your time helping me. Thanks everyone!!!

I%26#039;m taking a dance class called %26quot;Lindy Fix%26quot; and I need to know what kind of shoes to wear? (and clothes)
If you can get jazz shoes from any dance store i would recommend that. but Sneakers would be fine. You should wear a comfortable light shirt with the spandex.
Reply:Wear flathill shoes and gim clothing it is comfortable and you can move a lot without your clothes in the way.
Reply:Check out http://www.dancestore.com/

That%26#039;s where all us Lindy Hoppers get our shoes. Its owned by lindy hop dancers and are super nice people who make great stuff that lasts and is comfortable.
Reply:When you first come out dancing, there is no need to invest in any kind of special shoes. Simply grab some comfortable shoes out of your closet. You may want to pick a pair that will slide a bit on the floor so you don%26#039;t stick when trying to turn. Overall, the real key word is %26quot;comfortable%26quot;. As time goes by, you may want to invest into some dance shoes. There are many options open to you when looking for a dance shoe. Technically, any comfortable shoes will work, however, most people find that common street shoes with rubber soles to be too %26quot;sticky%26quot; to dance in. Dress shoes with hard leather soles often lack the needed comfort for swing dancing. You%26#039;re left with either buying specific swing dance shoes or modifying a pair of street shoes. Bleyers are probably the most popular brand of off-the-shelf swing dance shoes. There are also many ballroom shoes with swing styles, however, many of these are built for general dancing and lack the padding and support that is helpful when swing dancing. Another option is jazz or tap shoes (without the taps). Seeing these dances share similar roots as swing (and similar movements), the dance shoes are often functional for swing dancing as well. For many swing dancers, off-the-shelf dance shoes don%26#039;t offer what they are looking for in style, comfort, and/or cost. The next step is to find and modify a pair of regular street shoes. Swing dancing is pretty casual. Usually, it is uncommon for people to go really dressy. Swing dancing is energetic and I live in California; even with air conditioning there is a good chance you will get a little sweaty. While gymwear is discouraged, it is a good idea to dress in casual clothes that you don%26#039;t mind getting a little sweaty. Also it%26#039;s a good idea to wear clothes that give you a full range of movement. As a rule of thumb, live band nights tend to be more dressy than DJ nights. Some people prefer to dress vintage on occasion. While this is never required, it is fun and adds to the atmosphere. On rare occasions, a dance may be labeled as a dressy occasion. This is something to keep an eye out for. Workshops, classes, and lessons are even more casual than dances. Comfortable clothes are the goal. Depending on the length and material being taught, gymwear may be acceptable.
Reply:You need comfortable and a little loose fitting close- since they say clean, they want something that is litterally clean, not dirty- probably don%26#039;t want mud on their floor.

Any dance shoe should be something that will allow a little slide. Your foot has to be able to turn with your weight on it. Plain leather works well, although some artifical material work as well. Sneakers are %26#039;anti-slip%26quot; and will hinder your turns or even hurt your legs!

Dance shoes are made with very thin swede soles- they are light, flexible and allow easy turns.

What kind of dress should you wear for valentines dance (8th)and shoes?!!?

Wear something comfortable!! and make sure the dress won%26#039;t fall down. do the jumping up and down method to make sure of that. for shoes go for a matching color or a color that accents your dress. go for flats or kitten heels or else you will be taking them off within the first 15 minutes! For jewelry I would just get long diamond earrings but that%26#039;s it because there is that big sparkily circle in the middle of you your dress!

I would get cute little flats, but not high heels because you want to have fun and be able to dance!!

Women: Do you dance with maryjane shoes?

Nope.

I don%26#039;t have any. But if I do (have any) I would dance IN them and WITH someone.

;-)

Women: Do you dance with maryjane shoes?
What type of shoes are you talking about? There is a tap shoe that is a mary jane style. It is popular with younger dancers. Years and years ago there was a character shoe in a mary jane style, but I don%26#039;t believe those are popular and aren%26#039;t available to purchase anyway.

Can%26#039;t think of any other dance show that would be considered mary jane. I don%26#039;t do ballroom so I couldn%26#039;t help you with that.

How can i dance in pointe shoes without PAIN? but wait!!.?

Here%26#039;s the thing. My ballet teacher says that she will not permit me to use tape or compfort pads. But, if i find something small in the sort of single toe comfort things. do you have any suggestions, please?

How can i dance in pointe shoes without PAIN? but wait!!.?
First off, make sure your pointe shoes are fitted correctly. This makes a world of difference. If you have shoes too wide in the box (which a lot of people do, thinking it will be more %26quot;roomy%26quot; and therefore comfortable) you simply lose the support for your toes and end up squashing them. This is just one example, many factors of a well-fitted shoe can ease your pain a TON.

And I agree with your teacher. I used to swear by like every product bunheads made- my shoes were so full of gel crap I%26#039;m suprised I could feel anything. haha

But now I%26#039;m dancing with just a spacer (a necessity because I%26#039;ve got bunions :() and a folded paper towel. It makes for so much greater articulation.

My advice would be to figure out what kind of discomfort you are having, and then adress this the next time you get shoes- preferably with an expirienced fitter in a store with many options.
Reply:maybe this is what you are looking for.

Reply:when you say comfort pads do you mean ouch pouches? if so my teacher wont let me use thoes either, and i use lambs wool instead. or you can get toe caps, which are for a singal toe.

hope this helps!
Reply:my friends teacher says the same thing. my teacher never used pads either, but she lets us. try using paper towels. and then also use band aids if your shoes rub anywhere. and then put lambs wool in the bottom of your shoe. you can also get the Gel Tips by Bloch. theyre pretty much like a tuby thing that you can put over one toe. thats all i can think of. hope you find something that helps.

make sure your shoes tight enough. if theyre too wide, your feet are gonna slip around and its gonna hurt really bad. otherwise i guess itll get better over time. your gonna get used to it and callused. good luck!
Reply:use a folded up paper towel! i know it sounds weird but it works wonders. it even molds to the shape of your foot. or if thats still too big then use band aids =)
Reply:LAMBS WOOL you just stick it wherever theres pain in the shoe
Reply:No padding? Your feet are REALLY gonna get screwed up. Anyway, if you want, see how the gel toe pads would work. They might sell small ones. Or get actual lambs wool, not the kind that are in the padded shape and put it in the bottom of your shoes. However, You really should have REAL padding, I don%26#039;t care how professional your teacher is. It isn%26#039;t good for your feet and it could ruin your dancing career from injury.
Reply:we weren%26#039;t allowed to use them either. try wrapping half a paper towel around your foot, it will cut down on the friction between your foot and the shoe. you can also by what%26#039;s called %26quot;the big tip%26quot; by bunheads to cushion your big toe, which is where most of the pressure ends up
Reply:I feel sorry for you. At my studio you can use gel pads. They are thin (a few millimeters, 2-3) and I don%26#039;t get hurt from them. I hope she will let you use those if not you%26#039;re in trouble! DANCING ROCKS!
Reply:Wow, you have a harsh teacher who doesn%26#039;t care a fig for your wellbeing. Find a new studio!

But beyond that, you can try corn pads until you build up some whoppers of callouses. Good luck with that, and really, if you want to avoid future foot problems, find some other teacher. I know that professional dancers can get to the point where they don%26#039;t need much padding, but that%26#039;s because they%26#039;ve built up callouses.
Reply:Ouch! I don%26#039;t use pads, but I use tape. If your teacher lets you, try using paper towels, the kind that are usually in public bathrooms. Fold them around your toes in the shape of toe pads.

If you%26#039;re allowed to use Second Skin or any kind of moist burn pads (found in the drugstore), those provide relief from blisters and corns by somewhat numbing them. Another way to deal with blisters and corns is by using baby teething gel or orajel, a toothache cream. It is meant to numb a toothache, but putting it over a blister will help numb the pain. Normally you would put tape over the gel, but you will still at least partly numb the pain even without tape.

You probably already know about softening up the box by stepping on your shoes, banging them, and about bending the shank with your hands. Rubbing alcohol is more effective as a softener than water and doesn%26#039;t shrink the fabric when it dries.

Be careful if you jet glue the shoes; gluing in the wrong spot can make edges that dig into your feet.

How do you dance on pointe shoes?

I know i shoudnt be asking this wuestion if i%26#039;m not on pointe. but i would really like to know how to do it

How do you dance on pointe shoes?
Please ignore the previous answers. There are no wooden blocks in pointe shoes, although that is the common belief. They only sound like they have wood in them when they hit the floor because the end is very hard. They are actually made much like paper mache except with fabric. This helps support the foot to stay in a pointed position without the foot rolling forward, backward, or sideways and helps distribute the weight of the body. Most dancers also use padding in the shoe to help cushion their feet so there is less pain involved.

Basically, when you go on pointe you are standing on the very tips of your big toe and sometimes your second toe, depending on the shape of your feet. Your ankle is completely stretched. This puts an enormous amount of pressure on your feet, ankles, and knees. Many dancers end up with knee injuries if they are using improper technique on pointe. That is part of the reason your legs must be extremely strong, as they are holding the rest of your body weight in a position it is not used to being in (slightly forward from where you stand normally). You notice that it is harder to balance when on the balls of your feet (demi releve) - that is because your body weight is shifted forward. When you go on pointe, it is even further forward. So basically, to get to full pointe, you have to roll through your foot until you get into the position described above.

Please, please, PLEASE do NOT try this at home. It is extremely dangerous to go on pointe if you are not ready. You could seriously injure yourself and never be able to dance again. I had a friend who danced at a different studio than I did. She went on pointe too early and seriously damaged her knee. It was literally swollen to twice its normal size, and she had to quit dance all together. Please wait until your teacher tells you that you are strong enough to be on pointe - usually around age 12, but again varying depending on your strength and technical ability.

If you want to work on being stronger in the mean time, here are some exercises you can do:

Stand on the edge of a stair with just the balls of your feet on the stair and your heels hanging off the edge. Slowly go up into as high a releve as you can get (without going up to full pointe), then slowly lower yourself back down. You can repeat this until your calf muscles are burning. You can also try it with one foot, then the other.

Take a coffee can and some marbles. Pick up the marbles with your toes and put them in the coffee can.

Lay a towel flat on the floor. Use your toes to scrunch up the towel.

Using a theraband (available at a physical therapists office, at a dancewear store, or check online - it%26#039;s like a giant elastic band), place the end over your toes. Slowly point your foot hard, then slowly flex it.

For the above three exercises, make sure you do them with both feet.

Good luck, and please don%26#039;t try to go on pointe until your teacher says you are ready!
Reply:listen to groovy girl (sorry i forgot the name!they arent wood, its layers of satin and glue...and everything else she said!
Reply:The same way that you do without pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are made with a wodden block and padding so you can get up on pointe and stay there comfortably. You can go on pointe without pointe shoes but it really hurts and you can only stay up like that for less than a second.
Reply:The same way you would normally dance with your regular ballet slippers, except instead of going on half pointe, you%26#039;d go on full pointe. When you warm up, you sort of break in your shoes, and get your feet used to your shoes.

Also, when you take pointe, you put padding in your shoes to make sure you don%26#039;t totally kill yourself. x)
Reply:There are special shoes with a wooden block to help you stand it REALLY hurts and some peoples toes even start to bleed! But you can stay up on there pretty long if you%26#039;ve taken dance long enough/ And you have to take dance for a long time bfore you can take pointe! But after all the hard work Pointe is very beautiful and worth all the trouble!!

What do you say when you ask for a pair of leather ballet shoes in a dance store?

i need a pair of new leather ones...and the first time i got a pair of ballet shoes was in august and a lady helped me with my fitting for the shoes...i%26#039;m a size 6 and the bottom of my ballet shoes say 4c or 4 c? so when i go into a store how do i ask for the shoes i need? do i say, %26#039;i need a pair of 4 c shoes single sole?%26#039; please i want to ask the right way without sounding stupid.

What do you say when you ask for a pair of leather ballet shoes in a dance store?
You can never sound stupid when asking for a pair of ballet shoes. Ballet shoes need to fit without cramming so it is very important to get the right size. Just simple ask for a pair of leather ballet shoes that are full sole. When they ask for the size, just say, 4c...but you might also want to ask for a size larger because your feet could of grown.
Reply:Just say you need a pair of ballet shoes that are full sole and if you aren%26#039;t sure of your size just ell them and they will measure your foot. It could also help to bring your old ones with you.
Reply:All you have to do is ask them for a pair of ballet shoes. They will ask you what type (as you said, full sole and leather or canvas in whatever brand). They%26#039;ll ask you what is you normal shoe size. You don%26#039;t have to worry about those complex numbers, because it%26#039;s different with every brand. The associate should know; don%26#039;t worry.
Reply:just ask what you think will get you the information you%26#039;re looking for, they may ask if you want leather or canvas shoes.

what the numbers and letter stands for is the size and width of the shoe

i am also a dancer and know what it%26#039;s like to ask for shoes,

again just ask who ever is working there about what you need they%26#039;re there to help you

best of luck

a fellow dancer
Reply:Your best bet, particularly with ballet shoes, but really with all dance shoes, is to ask them to fit you. Unless your feet have stopped growing and you have a particular brand you always come back to, getting them fitted is one of the most important things you can do to avoid problems-either injuries, pain, or interference with your movements. When you go in, tell them you need a new pair of leather single sole ballet shoes (I prefer split sole, personally, but go with what works for you or you%26#039;re required to have), and if they ask what size, ask to be fitted. Even if they pull it up based on your street shoe size, still request to try them on. Slight variations of even a half size can make your feet feel very cramped or can make your shoes flop around. Most people that work in dance stores are dancers themselves, so they know the importance of getting the right fit. Enjoy the dancing!
Reply:hon, you will never sound stupid in a dance store. Just tell the person working there what u are looking for. I have never met a mean person tht worked in a dance store.

I would suggest DSW. I always find shoes that I can%26#039;t live without. Also if you can either take the dress along (in a garment bag) or take a swatch of fabric to the store because the color in your head could be way off from what you are trying on.

How old are you supposed to be to get your Pointe shoes for dance?? I want minje so bad!! Help me please!!?

well at my school our teacher starts to look at getting point shoes for girl at the age of 11 but the decides if her feet are strong enough and trust me you don%26#039;t really want your point shoes

How old are you supposed to be to get your Pointe shoes for dance?? I want minje so bad!! Help me please!!?
at my old dance studio you have to be at least 11 years old unless you were amazing they%26#039;d start you at 8,9, or 10... but the majority were 11. i like watching ballet but it%26#039;s my least favorite to dance. I love modern and lyrical.
Reply:Generally, 11 is the age that most students recieve point shoes. But, if your teacher thinks you accelerate above the class you may find youself at a higher level than most people your age and get them a year or two earlier. I got mine very early, 9 to be exact. I was on the level with the 14 year olds at that point, and I was Clara in the Nutcracker in one cast, while the other girl was 13. My daughter%26#039;s Hannah and Taylor both got them at age 10, and Maggie%26#039;s 9 and i just took her point shoes shopping yesterday. It really depends on your skill level. If you%26#039;re pretty much on the same skill level as theother girls your age, expect to get them around age 11.
Reply:usually you should be at least 12 years old, because as you grow the bones in your feet ossify and if you are en pointe, they can deform and you will have life long problems. you need to be strong and with a lot of classical ballet training, and you should have good technique and control. if you go en pointe when youre not ready, you can hurt yourself badly. your teacher will tell you when you are ready, listen to them, they know better than you. if your teacher says you can get pointe shoes and you are new to ballet, younger than 11, are recovering from injury or are physically unfit, weak or lack technique, change schools or at least teachers. it will be so much fun when you get en pointe, but not unless youre ready. make sure you are comfortable in your level and dont just get them because you want to, the benifits are far greater when youre ready!!

in the meantime practise lots of releves, rises and tondus etc. good luck and keep working hard!
Reply:the youngest is 11-13...it all depends on ankle/leg strength and also technique...you can%26#039;t until your teacher thinks your ready. or ask and you can go into pre pointe.
Reply:in our school its not age its how good of a dancer u r
Reply:it doesnt really depend on the age, it%26#039;s how good you are or how much experiance you have had. you need strong calfs and ankles to be a good pointe dancer.
Reply:Maybe you should star/watch this question, its really simaler to yours.

In your opinion what's the best type of shoes to dance in?

if possible please include a picture

In your opinion what%26#039;s the best type of shoes to dance in?
Try this site. I used to do ballroom dancing. The shoes are made beautifully and the arches are steel. The heels are perfectly balanced you won%26#039;t end up breaking a heel and falling on your whatever.

Reply:high heels, its makes you look better. but flats are more cumfy.
Reply:Well what type of dancing are you taking about?

barefoot all the way, with foot paws for performances
Reply:In my opinion pointe shoes are the best shoes to dance in. I have been studying ballet and jazz since I was 3 and ballet is the best. Pointe shoes may take a while to get used to but in all I believe that they are the best.
Reply:Well. Idk what kind of dancing you are referring to, but I love my jazz shoes. I%26#039;m also a big fan of modern shoes and toe thongs. My favorite are made by caprizo or bloch.
Reply:i absolutely LOVE tap shoes...but i wear my pedinis like all the time...they are super cumfy....
Reply:For ballet: anything split sole and canvas. I personally like these: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

For jazz: anything split sole...... This is what I wear: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

For tap: split soles are better, canvas is better than plastic, if you%26#039;re starting out, don%26#039;t go for a higher heel. I like these (small heel, good for toe stands, etc.): http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

For anything else (since I%26#039;m not sure what type of shoes you%26#039;re looking for), heels should be fine. Good luck!
Reply:Dance Shoes
Reply:What type of dancing? If you%26#039;re talking about performance dance, I%26#039;d go for character shoes (basically tap shoes with no taps), jazz shoes or jazz sneakers.
Reply:jazz shoe is always the best, but it depends what type of dance you%26#039;re going to dance
Reply:In my opinion, tap shoes are my favorite shoes to dance in. I am a person of rhythm and beats, so the beats on the floor that these shoes make is so fun! (My second best pair of shoes to dance in are dance sneakers and/ or jazz shoes.)
Reply:I always thought dancing shoeless was the best, easiest way to dance. Although some shoes are designed for dancing but even then there are probably many different types of dancing shoes.
Reply:barefoot!
Reply:WELL FOR ME ANYTHING IS COOL BUT DEPENDS WHAT YOU ARE DANCING FOR EXAMPLE I AM HISPANIC AND I CANT DANCE REGGAETON WITH SNEACKERS I HAVE TO DANCE WITH OTHER TYPE OF SHOE BUT IT IS REALLY UP WHETER YOU ARE CONFORTBLE OR NOT...
Reply:What ever you are comfortable wearing..
Reply:A nice pair of flats =)
Reply:Depends on what kind of dancing...I recommend 6%26quot; stiletto heels.
